There is a drain hole for water drainage, you don't need air holes because these pits pull air right off the top of the bowl due to the shape of the bowls. Our fire pits have no flat spots so they pull air very well. You get into trouble with fire pits that are square, rectangular and that have flat bottoms. Those kind of pits struggle to pull air.
